Musician, guitarist, born Keith Douglas Scott on July 20, 1954 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
His dad was really into music and his mother loved to sing. But other than that he never had any formal lessons. He enjoyed watching other people playing. He´d go to a show and watch them, and try to pick up little things from them like looking at where their hands were. So he basically taught himself and also got books and learned to read music a little bit. So he´s almost exclusively self-taught.
His interest for guitars started when he was about 9 or 10 years old and all his friends had guitars at their houses so he was quite fascinated with the sound.
Guitar took a special interest for him because most of his friends were doing it and he wanted to be part of it. Once he discovered how fascinating it was he kept working and working and working on it until he could sort of find his way around on it, so that's basically how he got started. He could strike this piece of wood with a string on it and get this monstrous sound to come out.
His musical debut includes playing recorder in grade school which taught him a lot on how to sight- read and play with an orchestra In high school he moved in to flaute with the stage band.
While still at school, he learned how to play the acoustic guitar and, by the time he was 17, he had acquired a used 1960s Fender Stratocaster, which was to become a trademark instrument. Many of his musical influences are also associated with this instrument: Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, for example.
At around age 18 he got together with a few friends from school and created a garage band.and somebody invited them to play a Church dance in the community and a guy from another band, who was in a pro band invited him to come to an audition .Keith passed the audition and got in the band and quicky he got work with better-known bands such as "Bowser Moon", The Handley Page Group and Zingo, playing about 300 shows a year in the then lucrative nightclub scene for another 5 years or so
While touring through Toronto, Ontario was introduced to Bryan Adams in the summer of 1976.
Remained friends with Bryan until after Bryan’s “You Want it You Got it” album was released , when he was asked to be part of the touring band for that record..
Went on to record and tour with Bryan Adams until present time, almost exclusively touring with him ever since!
Has done several recording dates with other artists in the meantime:
Tina Turner, Carly Simon, Bryan Ferry, Dion, David Bowie, Glass Tiger, Michael Buble, Odds and many others.
After “ Everything I do ( I do it for you) video recording for movie Robin Hood where Keith plays the orange Gretsch in the Sherwood Forest, he was contacted by Fred Gretsch who offered him to develop a Signature Nashville Gretsch 6120 –KS to Scott´s especifications. Keith designed the guitar with playability, tone, and stage presence in mind. The January 1999 NAMM show in Los Angeles was the official industry introduction of the Gretsch Keith Scott model Nashville acoustic electric guitar with a beautiful gold top, DynaSonic pickups, and classic Gretsch features.
Scott, along with Bryan Adams' drummer, Mickey Curry, and Mark Holden (the founding member of 1980s Canadian rock band Boulevard) created a surf music instrumental band called 'The Fontanas.' The band has released a self-titled album in 2005.
